Being Loved fair starts very soon! There’s no need to hold back in Eastern Switzerland: “Being is the eleventh most beautiful day of the year,” the people here boast; Foreigners can often only nod their heads at such enthusiasm. But for the people of Eastern Switzerland, the autumn fair is the fifth season; is a mix of product show and Oktoberfest on a small scale; That’s reason enough to stop by (again).

Many animals are of particular interest to children and families.

Becoming: How Switzerland’s most popular public trade fair came to be

Amid the turmoil of the Second World War, in 1943, the first “Eastern Switzerland Agricultural and Dairy Fair” (Olma) saw the light of day in eastern Switzerland and quickly became the largest public trade fair in the Swiss Confederation. An average of 370,000 people visited the fair in recent years. Even politics gets involved: Becoming is traditionally opened by a member of the Federal Council.

Although you can now admire everything the market has to offer at the fair (from washing machines to the latest vacuum cleaners and espresso machines), the focus is still on agriculture: you can admire cattle and munis in the Olma barn, Farm machinery where brown cattle will be tested and auctioned, At Olma Arena Animal shows will be organized. There is also a focus on dairy traditions and farming crafts. And there’s one more thing that’s a must at Olma: the arena bench race, which is a crowd favorite.

The highlight of the eleven-day party is the parade through the city centre, where the guest canton (which will be Zurich in 2023) introduces itself.

A colorful program is held every year.

This year, as every year, there are more than 600 participants with animal exhibitions, an entertaining support program and a wide range of products and services.

The Olma sausage is probably one of the most famous sausages in the country. Record breaker: St. Gallen veal sausage was mentioned in monastery documents as early as 1438, and at that time it was eaten strictly without mustard.

Advert

By the way: The Olma Fair also has a fair and (infamous) tasting rooms where plenty of wine flows down dry gorges. Good psychology.
