Panama sets a double record for electricity consumption in one day

For the first time in the same day, the historical record for demand for energy consumption was broken twice, which records National Dispatch Center of the Electricity Transmission Company SA (ETESA)informed the general manager Eng Carlos Mosquera Castillo.

“Today, Tuesday, April 4, at 2:50 p.m., the request arrived 2,078 MW and then after a few minutes he went to 2,079 MWwhich means that this year, in less than 10 days, the last three historical records in electricity consumption in the country were recorded, because the previous one was last Monday, March 27, at 2:48 p.m. when the demand went to 2,059 MW“, explained the manager of ETESA.

Mosquera added that while the previous maximum demand peaked in in 2022 and 2021 happened in May, so far in 2023 they have “anticipated” the months of March and April and reminded that when the consumption record was recorded on March 27, he warned that it is not excluded that they will repeat themselves this year. another consumption record.

“Although the causes of these new consumption records are different, it must be remembered that there is a significant increase in production and economic activity throughout the country: companies, industries, agro-industries, shopping centers and the logistics sector are operational. Although there is sufficient supply of electricity to cover the demand, we always encourage the rational use of electricity,” said Mosquera.

The previous maximum peaks of electricity consumption were: March 27, 2023 from 2,059 MWMay 4, 2022 2,031 MW last year and May 20, 2021 from 2,020 MW.
