The installation of electrolysis is also in the works plan fed with 100% renewable energy, which will be located on the land of the old Meirama thermal power plant. “A couple of this energy vector, three companies are strengthening their commitment to a just energy transition,” they pointed out in the presentations held in the business incubator of the O Acevedo industrial area.

The future renewable hydrogen power plant It will have an initial power of 30 megawatts, in different phases, until reaching a total potential of 200 megawatts. It will produce more than 4,000 tons of renewable hydrogen per year, and in the first phase it will reach a total production of 30,000 tons per year.

The obtained renewable hydrogen will be used for industrial use, more precisely to replace conventional hydrogen, which is currently used by the Repsol refinery in A Coruña. It will also be useful in other industries, in injection into the gas network for mixing with natural gas and in mobility.

All these uses will reduce the area’s carbon footprint “and demonstrate the viability of mass production of renewable hydroxene and its distribution to the end consumer,” noted speakers participating in the Cerceda talks.

It should be noted that The Meirama Just Transition Agreement covers the municipalities of Cerceda, Carral, A Laracha, Ordes and Tordoia.
