Here’s what’s wrong with the Tesla Semi
The first Tesla electric trucks have been delivered. Nice image bearers for the companies that bought them, but not good machines for the drivers who have to ride them. Here’s what’s wrong with the Tesla Semi.
There are already more electric trucks on the road, but Tesla’s is (obviously) generating the most attention. It is powered by three electric motors and can travel a maximum of 800 kilometers with a fully charged battery.
Charge for half an hour to get the Tesla Semi full
Tesla uses Megachargers to charge the Semi at a rate of up to 1 megawatt. In practice, this means a charging time of half an hour to get the battery 70 percent full again.
Designers did not think about practice
But that’s not what truckers fall for. a polish trucker, Thomas OrynskyHe fillets the Tesla Semi and shows that its designers didn’t think about practicality at all.
Tesla claims the Semi is designed around the driver. Nonsense, says Orynski. First, he says, Tesla wasted far too much cabin space by centering the driver’s seat.
Poor seating position and windows that cannot be opened
As with all truck manufacturers, placing the seat on the left (or right) side creates more usable space on the other side. In addition, a central seating position like in the semi ensures that you cannot look around your predecessor when overtaking.
In addition, drivers must pay tolls, speak to the guards at the entrance gates, and hand papers to someone. You can’t if you’re in the middle. In addition, the side windows of the Tesla Semi cannot be opened.
With muddy feet through the cabin
So the driver has to get up and open the door. That’s going to be quite a job, because Tesla didn’t place the semi’s doors next to the driver, but behind them.
What does it matter? A lot, says Orynski. In bad weather you walk halfway through the cabin with wet, muddy shoes. Not with a normal truck. Then only the step and the floor in front of your chair will get dirty, because then you take off your shoes.
No room for a bed in the Tesla Semi
In addition, since the doors are located at the rear of the cabin, there is no room for a bed. Now it can be pointed out that the Tesla Semi is not intended for that long haul. But according to Orynksi, almost all drivers take regular naps.
It is also not possible to install a bed above the windscreen, as was previously the case with old Scanias. Because Tesla has made the semi narrower at the front than at the back. So a mattress fits there without a possibility.
Tesla Semi designers have no idea
Has the Pole finished his criticism? no Now it’s time for the outside mirrors. With a regular truck, you can easily wipe it from the cab. This is not possible with the Tesla because they are too far out. So take a step…
Orynski has many more comments on the Tesla Semi. Accordingly, the designers of the device have no idea what a truck driver encounters in everyday practice.
