Do you like Modern Talking? Then this ugly winged Mercedes is just right for you
When we see this Boschert B300, we immediately think of Modern Talking guitarist Dieter Bohlen’s blonde mat and too-white teeth. He probably drove a Mercedes like that in the eighties.
And yet this “fake” Benz makes us greedy, because the German tuner Boschert has clearly done its best. The lines of the winged B300 are right.
Modern Mercedes 300 SL
The model is a kind of modern 300 SL “Gullwing” (or a kind of old-fashioned SLS AMG). Boschert took a 300 CE – the coupé version of the E-Class W124 – and built the front of the SL R129 on it.
In addition, the sills were reinforced to allow the installation of gull-wing doors, and the 300 CE’s naturally aspirated inline-six received two turbos for an output of 283 hp.
Presented at the IAA in 1989
The Boschert B300 was presented at the IAA in Frankfurt in 1989. The goal was to build three hundred examples of the coupé, which cost 186,000 marks. Ultimately, no more than a handful were made.
This is the only B300 with gullwing doors. All other copies have normal doors. So this Mercedes is truly unique. And that is reflected in the expected return.
Expected yield
The auction house RM Sotheby’s, which will auction the Mercedes on November 25th in Munich, expects a hammer price of between 250,000 and 300,000 euros.
