The Engadine is known for its golden larch forests that stand out against the snow-capped mountain peaks in autumn. The “Via Engiadina” route starts in the village of Maloja, between the Upper Engadine and Bergell. From there you hike up the hillside above the lake view towards Silvaplana. The route winds its way through mountain streams and rocks, through flowering meadows, and through pine and larch forests. The section between Sils Baselgia and Sils Föglias is currently closed; You need to avoid this by using the walking track next to the cantonal road. The turning point is marked.

Lac Bleu in Valais

At the tip of the Eringertal (Val d’Hérens) in the canton of Valais lies Lac Bleu, at 2090 meters above sea level. The approximately one and a half hour walk towards the lake starts from the village of Arolla in the municipality of Evolène. The road first goes uphill through a mountain landscape, then flattens out again, and in the background a larch forest begins at Lac Bleu, whose banks are lined with larches that glow orange in autumn.

Etang de la Gruère in Jura

Located in the nature reserve of the same name in Saignelégier JU, Étang de la Gruère is the largest steppe lake in Switzerland. In autumn, the atmosphere is especially mystical in the morning hours, when the fog over the water gradually disperses and the sun’s rays hit the yellow birch leaves. A circular walk through the nature reserve crosses steppes, bridges and pastures. From the lakeside car park, walk clockwise along Étang de la Gruère.

Lavaux vineyard terraces in Vaud

There is not only a walk through the Lavaux vineyards, but also a train route.

The wine terraces of Lavaux VD are the largest contiguous wine-growing region in Switzerland. It has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2007. The approximately three-hour walk starts in Saint-Saphorin on the shores of Lake Geneva. The medieval village is known for its winding streets and winemakers’ houses dating from the 16th to the 19th centuries. The route then passes through the rugged landscape of vineyards. After the grape harvest in autumn, the leaves of the vines turn yellow and orange. There are lake and mountain views during the walk before reaching Lutry.

Chellenchöpfli in Basel-Landschaft

The tour starts at the car park of the Wasserfallen gondola in Reigoldswil, from here the path ascends with many steps over small waterfalls. At the mountain station, walk left towards Waldweid and you will reach the Hintere Egg junction, the highest point in the canton of Basel-Landschaft at 1169 meters above sea level. The route then heads to Chellenchöpfli, where you can see views of the Solothurn Jura and its colorful autumn leaf cover. The path then heads slowly downwards over the pastures before descending slightly more steeply into the valley.

Arenenberg Castle in Thurgau

The terrace at Arenenberg Castle is bathed in autumn light.

The road stretches from Ermatingen to Arenenberg and from there you get views of Untersee. At Arenenberg Castle you can visit the Napoleon Museum or take a walk in the gardens where you can enjoy the golden autumn. The walk then descends towards the lake and Berlingen. At the end of the village the path goes up a bit again so you reach another viewpoint and then Steckborn.
