Lotus Omega gets a “successor”, that is the Emeya

Lotus presents the all-new Emeya, a model that follows in the footsteps of the Lotus Omega. Even if that’s a bit of sacrilege.

British Lotus was acquired by Chinese auto giant Geely in 2017. Although enthusiasts are crying over the new models like the Eletre, the Emira and the new Emeya, they still fit the sports brand somewhat. Though they’re not the fleet-footed British sports cars of yesteryear.

Successor to the Lotus Omega

After the Lotus Omega, which is based on the Opel of the same name, the brand has not built any more sedans. So far, the Lotus Emeya is ready for series production.

Of course, although we call the Lotus Omega, the Emeya has nothing to do with the classic. Under the hood is not a thick six-cylinder, but an electric motor.

Lotus Emeya is a fast GT

Although that sounds boring and such an electric motor is certainly not as fun to drive as a six-cylinder, the specifications are impressive. The most expensive version of the GT will have two electric motors. Lotus does not yet know how high the system capacity of the top model is. But with a zero-to-hundred time of 2.8 seconds, we’re expecting about the same performance as the most powerful Eletre. The maximum speed is 250 kilometers per hour.

We already know the Lotus Emeya’s fast charging capability. DC charging is possible with 350 kW. With it you can charge about 150 kilometers in 5 minutes.

Lotus Emeya and Eletre look similar

In terms of design, it can be seen that the Emeya is the Eletre’s sedan brother. They have a lot in common both in the back and in the front.

Lotus is also focusing on the luxury segment with this Emeya. With functionalities such as electronically controlled air suspension, speakers from KEF (a British luxury hi-fi manufacturer) and interior materials such as nappa leather and Alcantara, it competes with the Porsche Taycan and Lucid Air, for example.

What the Lotus Emeya will cost is not yet known. The start of production is planned for 2024. Do you want to stay up to date with all car news? Subscribe to our weekly newsletter now!
