Turkey: Opposition grows in parliament – but Erdogan retains absolute majority Not everyone is happy after the end of the US debt dispute – that’s how it is now

According to the now official result, the re-elected Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan can count on a majority in parliament in his new term of office.

His AKP and its partners have an absolute majority with 323 of the 600 seats, the head of the electoral authority, Ahmet Yener, said in Ankara on Tuesday. The parliamentary elections were two weeks ago. However, due to numerous objections, the announcement of the final result was delayed.

According to Yener, Erdogan’s AKP became the strongest power with 268 seats – but lost 27 seats. Your ultra-nationalist partner, the MHP, won 50 mandates and won one seat. Erdogan can also count on the support of Islamist Yenid Refah and her five MPs.

The second strongest party was the CHP of presidential candidate Kemal Kilicdaroglu (169 seats), which was defeated by Erdogan in the second round. It won 23 seats, making it the largest gain. The pro-Kurdish HDP, which sided with the Green Left Party over a threat of ban, lost six seats and has 61 in the new parliament.

The MPs are expected to be sworn in on Friday. Her appointment also raises the question of Erdogan’s future cabinet. His party had nominated almost all current ministers for parliament. When they are sworn in, they are relieved of their ministerial posts. No new cabinet has yet been appointed. (aeg/sda/dpa)
