In the southern Italian province of Avellino in Campania, a man died after heavy rainfall. Heavy rain showers began Thursday afternoon in parts of the province near Naples.
According to initial findings, the man was run over by his own car, which in turn was swept away by the bodies of water on the road, Ansa and Adnkronos news agencies unanimously reported. The man had previously been reported missing.
As shown on videos from the Italian fire service, roads and country lanes were partially flooded after heavy rain and hail – masses of water headed their way. According to the fire service, the emergency services are still busy with rescue measures. The worst affected are the municipalities of Forino, Celzi and Montoro. Just last week there was flooding in the north – at least 15 people were killed. (sda/dpa)
