Flight operations resumed in Catania after Etna eruption The situation in Bachmut is still unclear – the night update without photos

Mount Etna on the Italian Mediterranean island of Sicily seems to have woken up again. Flight operations at Catania airport were suspended on Sunday because the runway was contaminated by ash rain, the airport said in a statement. A Monday morning message said flight operations had resumed since 9 a.m. — but there may still be restrictions and delays.

Photos and videos also showed how cars and roads in the area around the cities of Catania and Adrano were affected by the ash rain. Residents reported on the Telegram platform of locally raining ash and dust.

Increased activity on the volcano was measured early in the morning, the National Institute for Geophysics and Volcanology announced Sunday. To be on the safe side, civil protection has declared an orange alarm. There were initially no reports of damage or injuries. (anb/sda/dpa)
