Donald Trump this morning he starred in a television spot on CNN where he took the opportunity to make a joke E. Jean Carolhe, the writer who accused him of sexual abuse, which he called “crazy,” to applause and laughter from an audience assembled by one of the major television networks in the United States. The former president of the USA once again rejected yesterday’s sentence and claimed that he had never seen that woman in his life.
During a meeting with citizens organized by CNN, the Republican mocked the prosecutor who accused him of abusing her in the dressing room of a New York chain of department stores and assured that the trial was bought. “I swear to my children that I have no idea who this woman is. It’s a false, made-up story,” said the Republican, who ordered Caroll to pay $5 million in damages for “damage” to her and her reputation.
Trump answered questions on the show journalist Kailtan Collins and voters in a debate on a variety of issues, including the storming of the Capitol, 2020 elections where he was defeated by the current president Joe Biden, the war in Ukraine and abortion.
Interactions between Trump and the reporter heated up at various times, and the former president even went so far as to insult Collins by calling her an “unpleasant person”, which the public greeted with a standing ovation.
The former president repeated, once again, what he said false accusations of voter fraud in the presidential election that brought victory to Biden, noting that it was a “rigged” election. In turn, he defended his actions during the attack on the Capitol, which is being investigated by a special prosecutor from the Department of Justice.
On January 6, the day hundreds of his followers stormed the Capitol and killed five people, “it was a beautiful and incredible day,” the former president said. “It was the biggest crowd I’ve ever spoken to … they were proud and they had love in their hearts,” Trump said.
The former president went a step further in his defense on January 6 and assured that, if elected president, he would offer a presidential pardon to a large number of people convicted by the judiciary for acts during the attack. “I’m inclined to pardon a lot of them,” Trump said, referring to the more than 300 people who were convicted of various crimes committed on Jan. 6, including assault, destruction of government property or sedition.
Trump rejected the second one pending legal investigationamong them the case for the handling of classified documents and his attempt to interfere in the counting of votes in Georgia.
The Republican retained a strained relationship with CNN and its reporters during his tenure and repeatedly described the television channel as a spreader of “fake news”. CNN’s decision to air such a show with Trump was sharply criticized by some Democratic politicians and political analysts. “I think it was a deeply irresponsible decision (…) that put a sexual assault victim at risk and it was shameful,” said Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in an interview with MSNBC.
For his part, lawmaker Daniel Goldman wrote on his Twitter: “Why did CNN organize a Trump rally?”
