14 months of war in Ukraine have cost thousands of lives. Both Ukrainian and Russian soldiers died at the front. Exactly how high the losses are – both parties are silent about it.
Now, however, a Russian medic reveals that most of the dead men apparently could have been saved. “More than 50 percent of all deaths were not due to life-threatening injuries,” Artem Katulin, head of a tactical medicine training center, told Ria Novosti news agency.
The main problems with medical care are the level of first aid training and the inability to quickly transport the injured to hospitals.
Katulin says some amputations could have been prevented with proper medical care. “More than 30 percent of amputations were caused by incorrectly applied tourniquet dressings.”
In an interview, he also complains that the number of injuries is very high. However, it is currently hardly possible to get them fit again quickly enough. (man)
