A video is currently going viral on TikTok showing how a self-driving taxi from Google subsidiary ‘Waymo’ in Phoenix, Arizona, does not respond at all to the instructions of a police officer. It should have given way to a pageant or procession. It didn’t seem to “get it”.
The video, which also reflects the amusement and disempowerment of the taxi’s occupants, has already been viewed more than 14 million times on TikTok.
The resolution of the situation was then quite unspectacular. When the vehicle realized it could go no further, it turned around and took an alternate route to its destination. The police officer recognized it as a self-driving car and let it go, according to Johnny Romano, who posted the video to TikTok.
Shortly afterwards, the “Waymo” support also reported by phone in the taxi and asked what exactly had happened and if everything was okay. (lzo)
