Four Russian Kalibr missiles fell on the Ukrainian city of Mykolayiv from the Black Sea on Thursday. At least one person was killed and 23 were injured, including a child. According to the Ukrainian authorities, private houses, an apartment building and a historic building were hit.

They therefore see the attack as a “clear act of terror for the civilian population”. Because the Kalibr missile is “a very accurate weapon that works according to target coordinates”. In other words, the attack was no accident for the Ukrainians.

Russians initiate new missile tactics

According to the American think tank Institute for the Study of War (ISW), the attack was part of a new Russian missile tactic. The Russians are not allowed to use the usual flight altitudes and also change jobs several times during the flight. This makes it difficult for the Ukrainian air defense to detect the missiles.

According to the ISW, the Russian army wants to start a new series of airstrikes. The skies over Ukraine have been suspiciously quiet in recent weeks and months. Russia launched its last violent missile strikes in early March. At that time, the Moscow regime fired 81 rockets and eight combat drones.

Few missiles – and still dangerous

Because: The Russians have to save on missiles. Stocks are decimated, production can’t keep up, the ISW said. Hence the new tactic. As a result, according to the ISW, they should be able to fire significantly less pointless missiles.

But even as the Russians battle dwindling missile inventories, they still have enough missiles to wreak havoc in Ukraine. (chs)
