The health of former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has continued to improve in recent days. A statement from the doctors said on Wednesday that treatment at the San Raffaele clinic in Milan has allowed the 86-year-old to reach a “stable condition”.
The doctors also spoke of an “optimal and convincing recovery of his organ functions”. There was initially no prognosis about a possible discharge from the hospital.
Berlusconi was hospitalized in early April. He spent nearly two weeks in intensive care due to chronic leukemia and pneumonia. Ten days ago he was able to leave intensive care and be transferred to a normal ward.
Berlusconi shaped Italian political life for decades. The right-wing populist and media entrepreneur was Prime Minister of Italy four times from 1994 to 2011 with interruptions.
He has been in poor health for years. At the end of 2020 he fell ill with Corona and pneumonia. In the years before, he had to be hospitalized because of a urinary tract infection. In 2016, he underwent heart surgery. (aeg/sda/dpa)
