The fabricated interview that the German magazine “Die Aktuell” published last week caused a lot of horror.

“Die Aktuell” caused quite a stir last week with an alleged interview with seven-time F1 world champion Michael Schumacher (54). The mega headline “Michael Schumacher: the first interview!” graced the cover of the latest issue of the German magazine.

However, the medium fooled its readers: the entire “conversation” was generated using ChatGPT’s artificial intelligence. After Schumacher’s family announced that they would take legal action, the publisher took over the consequences and fired editor-in-chief Anke Hoffmann.

“The article should never have appeared”

As the media group Funke announced in an official statement, Hoffmann was “relieved of his duties effective today”.

The publisher also apologizes to the Schumacher family for the reporting and is clear: “This tasteless and misleading article should never have appeared. It in no way meets the journalistic standards that we – and our readers – expect from a publisher like Funke,” explains Funke director Bianca Pohlmann.

The fabricated interview was especially shocking as Schumacher’s health has been kept secret since his tragic skiing accident in 2013. The family last commented on the situation in a documentary on Netflix due out in 2021.

His wife Corinna Schumacher (54) said at the time: “We live together at home. We do therapy. We do everything we can to make Michael feel better, to make him feel good and just to give him our family, our connection to feel.”

His son Mick (24) also gave an insight: “I would give everything if I could speak to my father again!” (dzc)
