Wearing the right sports bra can improve performance

A recent study suggests that simply wearing a supportive sports bra can increase yield of 7%.

Nearly three-quarters of women experience breast pain during exercise, which can get in the way of enjoying activities like running.

Researchers from the University of Memphis analyzed the impact of chest support on knee joint stiffness during running.

Knee joint stiffness is a biomechanical measure of the joint’s resistance to movement when force is applied, and is associated with lower oxygen consumption, better running performance and speed.

Women who participated in the study they were aged between 18 and 35 years. They represented different cup sizes, incl B, C and D. They had two sports bras: a high support bra and a low support bra.

Each participant performed three-minute running sessions wearing a high-support bra, a low-support bra, and no bra.

Researchers tracked the women’s movements as they ran and found that increased levels of breast support were associated with greater knee joint stiffness.

Analysis found that a high-support bra could improve your running performance by 7 percent.

Although performance isn’t just related to speed, the results show that wearing a good sports bra could potentially add a few seconds to a minute of running time.
