Suspicions against Dominic Raab, the justice chief, date back to his time as foreign secretary when complaints of intimidation and misconduct began

Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Chief Justice, Dominic Raabpublished his own this Friday resigned after being accused of workplace harassmentAlthough he believes that the investigator who investigated his case “set the bar too low” to be able to talk about pressure and intimidation, which can set a “dangerous precedent” and give rise to other “false” reports against high officials.

Doubts about Raab They date from the time when he was the Minister of Foreign Affairsalthough the investigation began in November 2022. Former colleagues reported situations of intimidation and misconduct, which were written in a report that increased the pressure on Raab and on Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

“I think it’s important to keep your word”, said Raab, who has vowed to step down if the investigation accuses him of some kind of excess. In his letter to Sunak, however, he defended his work, stating for example that the minister must exercise “direct supervision” when there are relevant situations, as happened in his case “in the negotiations on Brexit over Gibraltar.

He also explained that the minister also has the right to be critical of his subordinates, “within reasonable limits”. In this sense, he expressed regret for the “stress or unintentional insults” that this may have caused, but pointed out that the report did not find a single situation of insults, shouting or “physical intimidation”.

Raab used his farewell to reiterate his support for Sunak, who “proved to be an excellent prime minister in very difficult times”. “You can count on my support from the parliamentary seat,” he stressed, implying that he will continue to be a deputy in the House of Commons despite his departure from the executive branch.
