Parents of disabled children do not have to pay

Federal President Alain Berset was heavily criticized, including from his own ranks.

The Federal Council is skimping on those who need help the most. Federal President and Interior Minister Alain Berset (51) was confronted with this accusation. The “NZZ am Sonntag” reported last Sunday that the federal government had withdrawn IV benefits for disabled children against the will of parliament.

Since then, families have had to bear the costs of certain aids, such as oxygen equipment, themselves. Even within his own party, Berset was strongly criticized.

Now the federal government is responding. As an interim solution, the extra costs incurred will be taken over so that affected families are not burdened by this, the federal social insurance service announced on Thursday.

The federal government continues to pay

For the disability insurance (IV), the main thing is that the care for the affected children is not endangered and that the situation of the families does not deteriorate either financially or qualitatively, so the office.

In case of medical needs, the IV also covers the costs of resources and items, services and consumables that are not on the list of resources and items. The infusion also covers second devices if a defect requires a quick replacement and this has been confirmed by a doctor. According to the Federal Bureau, existing orders from the IV remain valid.

400 families affected

According to the BSV, a number of families with children with congenital defects have received bills in recent weeks for resources and items needed for examinations or treatments, the costs of which have so far been covered by the infusion. About 400 families are affected.

The reason for the uncertainty that has arisen in recent days is that a provider charged higher prices than the maximum permitted rate. As a result, the prices were not adjusted after a cost review initiated by the BSV and in a number of cases the IV charged the maximum benefit amounts applicable at that time and the insured the difference.

The IVN will contact and inform the affected families in the coming days, according to the BSV. Affected families would be supported in switching to providers that meet the applicable maximum reimbursement amounts of the IV. Corresponding qualitatively equivalent offers are available. That would have cleared things up. (SDA/lha)
