The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NORAD) intercepted it two Russian fighter planes entering the air defense identification zone (ADIZ) of the country Alaskain the north of the American continent.
In a statement released this Wednesday, the United States reported that on Monday, April 17, it “detected, located, identified and intercepted” two aircraft that remained in international airspace, according to Europa Press. “This Russian activity in the North American ADIZ occurs regularly and does not pose a threat, nor is it considered provocative activity,” they explained.
They also detailed that the planes were two TU-95 bombers, which were escorted out of Alaska’s defense airspace by several American planes.
NORAD records an average of six to seven interceptions of Russian military aircraft per year, which it detects using a network of satellites, radars and aircraft flying over North American airspace.
