Cruising in a Mercedes-AMG, luxury travel and designer fashion – the successful German fitness influencer Julian Zietlow (38) and his wife Alina Schulte im Hoff (36) led a life many dream of. Zietlow became famous with “Size Zero”, a ten-week high-intensity fitness program. He and Schulte im Hoff now run a fitness empire, own a nutritional supplement company, design fitness fashion and together have hundreds of thousands of followers on Instagram. They posted pictures of themselves there for years. Hashtag: #centenaryprogram.

But that’s over after 18 years together. Zietlow hasn’t posted anything on his account in over nine months — and his followers are concerned he may have fallen victim to a drug cult in Thailand.

Journey to your “higher self”

In 2021 he met the influencer Ferdinand Beck (30). In a collaborative 2022 podcast episode, Beck describes Zietlow as “stressed and unhappy”. “I had achieved what I wanted. I had a great family. Everything was cool. I was in the Maldives, but I was just unhappy,” says Zietlow in the episode. Beck shows the influencer the journey to his ‘higher self’ – including through drug use.

At the end of 2021, the successful entrepreneur used drugs for the first time. Zietlow takes psychedelics under his wing, including LSD. “My wife Alina wished me good luck,” Zietlow says of his first time. The beginning of Zietlow’s crash begins.

The absolute dream couple in search of themselves

The content changes 180 degrees. Instead of talking about fitness, he philosophizes about the meaning of life and the search for the true self. “My biggest fear is to disappoint Alina,” Zietlow explains in the podcast with Beck. Zietlow and Schulte im Hoff appear as a dream couple on social media.

After the birth of their second daughter, both decide to work less and take part in meditative ceremonies.

Initially, Zietlow wants to take his followers on his self-exploration and promotes psychedelics as a means of self-discovery. But overnight there was radio silence on his social media channels. His last post of his own is dated July 22, 2022 – the couple’s seventh wedding anniversary. Many fans wonder: what happened to the influencer couple?

Did he join a cult in Thailand?

A podcast episode by Beck provides the first clues. “Many people say that I have lost touch with reality and that I am immersed in the Bashar sect – and that’s true. I am in the Bashar sect,” he says in it. The “Bashar cult” has sect -like structures Already after this episode it is clear that Zietlow could also have joined the cult.

Beck has 212,000 followers and talks about the search for the “highest excitement” (in German: highest satisfaction). According to his own statements, he became a millionaire thanks to the Bashar sect. But it’s clear that Beck also makes a lot of money promoting Zietlow’s “Rocka Nutrition” brand. During the corona pandemic, he also attracted attention by comparing the measures to those of the Third Reich.

Schulte im Hoff announced divorce

Beck’s Instagram story from a week ago provides further clues. Apparently not completely sober, he says: “I see that there is just a crying child who says ‘I want one too’. And I just take it with me,” Beck raps on Instagram. And further: “Just like I Julian Zietlow took him and showed him life. Now he’s at the start. And you can be at the start too.”

Alina Schulte will provide more clarity in Hoff this weekend: she and Zietlow have separated, she announces. Meanwhile, Zietlow searches for the “highest arousal”.
