This work attitude had far-reaching consequences: because they were annoyed by the insistent tone, two observers from the detention center in Dresden ignored the breakout alarm. With consequences: Two Algerian refugees were able to escape.

According to “Bild,” the first escapee hung on a sheet from a common room window on Sunday night. He then ran 20 meters down the road and climbed over a three-metre high barbed wire fence.

Considered a false alarm

The action set off an alarm, but the prison guards ignored it. They just turned off the alarm. In the past, spiders would have repeatedly caused false alarms. Not this time.

The second prisoner noted that his colleague escaped unscathed and also made a successful escape attempt. As the newspaper reports, the employees did not notice the escape for three hours.

For three hours no one noticed. Explosive: During a morning patrol around the house, the sheet of the first fugitive even dangled from the window.

Not the first outbreak

The two Algerians were staying illegally in Germany and would be deported. To make sure they actually leave the country, they were put behind bars. Now they’re gone.

Prisoner release proceedings were initiated against the two prison guards, as the responsible senior prosecutor told “Bild”. Incidentally, the escape from Dresden prison was not the first thing that attracted the attention of the prison. An outbreak occurred in 2020.

No more nighttime confinement

The most recent incident has caused incomprehension throughout Germany: the Saxon State Directorate is criticizing last year’s decision to no longer lock up prisoners at night in order to give them more freedom. “Bild” even writes about a broken prison. The chairman of the State Board left the question of a possible dismissal unanswered.

Meanwhile, the German police are looking for the escaped prisoners. She does not expect punishment under German law. After all, refugees cannot be held responsible for their own liberation. (A)
