This questionable tourist photo in front of the Auschwitz concentration camp memorial sparked outrage online.

The sun shines. A young tourist hangs on a train track in front of a man with a smartphone at the ready and smiles at the sky through her sunglasses. Would the scene take place in front of the Eiffel Tower or the Taj Mahal – no problem, tourist routine.

Alone: The woman allows herself to be photographed in front of the Auschwitz concentration camp. 80 years ago, trains that took people to the Auschwitz concentration camp ran on the rails on which she sits. Between one and one and a half million people were murdered there by the Nazis – they were gassed, starved or forced to work themselves to death.

Tasteless poser goes viral

Auschwitz is also the symbol of the mass murder of the Jews by the Germans in World War II. The exact number of victims has not yet been determined. The photo of the young woman has therefore spread rapidly on the internet in recent days and caused outrage.

One user writes of a “deeply shocking attitude”. He testifies to the lack of respect “for the millions of deportees” on the part of those who were photographed and of the man who took the picture.

Another user writes that he also visited the monument – but did not take any photos. What he saw there was “too horrible”. One comment sums it up: “It’s not a place for selfies.”
