Less than a month after the state visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping (69), Kremlin boss Vladimir Putin (70) received the Chinese Minister of Defense in Moscow on Sunday. The Chinese firmly deny that China provided any arms aid to the Russians in the background of the war in Ukraine. Putin gave a different impression after his talks with Chinese Defense Minister Li Shangfu (65).

Putin welcomed the “successful and extensive defense cooperation between Moscow and Beijing,” Russia’s state news agency “Tass” reported. The “important” military atmosphere, according to Putin, “strengthens” relations between Moscow and Beijing.

Neither Putin nor his guest gave precise information about the nature of this military cooperation. Putin said so much that the two countries are sharing vital information and conducting joint military maneuvers. The armed forces of the two nations would “actively and regularly exchange useful information”. They work together “on military-technical cooperation and we conduct joint exercises in different locations,” Putin told the Kremlin. “In the Far East, in Europe, at sea, on land and in the air.”

Strengthening the anti-Western axis

China says it sees itself as a neutral party in the Ukraine conflict. Xi has so far not condemned the Russian offensive in the neighboring country, nor has he spoken to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (45). With two high-level visits to Moscow in just three weeks, the Chinese reinforce the impression of Western states that they are tacitly supporting Moscow in the face of Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine.

The recent top-level Russian-Chinese meeting in Moscow underscores Beijing’s increased involvement with Moscow. The two partner countries largely coordinate their foreign policies to reduce the influence of the US and other Western countries.

Replacing the US dollar as the world’s reserve currency?

One of the plans of this true iteration of the Cold War is to replace the dollar as the world’s reserve currency. China, Russia and their allies are building their own currency blocks to bypass the dollar trade.

The 1944 Bretton Woods Agreement made the US dollar the world’s leading reserve currency. Now a new world order seems to be emerging. During his visit to China last week, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (77) called on developing countries to replace the dollar with their own currency in international trade. In doing so, Lula is supporting Russia and Beijing’s efforts to end the dollar’s dominance in world trade.

Lula also called on the US to end military aid to Ukraine. The United States must “stop promoting war and start talking about peace”. The European Union must also “start talking about peace”.
