Four killed in avalanche accident near Mont Blanc

At least four people have been killed in an avalanche in the French Alps near Chamonix. According to initial findings, several people have also been injured, French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin wrote on Twitter on Sunday afternoon. The rescue work is still in progress. According to French President Emmanuel Macron, people were still trapped in the snow.

According to Darmanin, the avalanche fell on the Armancette Glacier near Mont Blanc on the French-Italian border around noon.

Mont Blanc (also spelled Mont Blanc, Italian Monte Bianco, in German «White Mountain») is the highest mountain in the Alps. Darmanin thanked the rescuers. He commemorates the victims and their families. Macron also remembered the victims and their families. (sda/dpa)
