Business magnate and former prime minister of Italy Silvio Berlusconi remains in the intensive care unit of San Raffaele Hospital in Milan (north) with a stable prognosisalthough he asked to return home, according to the media obtained by the sources of the Italian agency ANSA.
Since his admission, last Wednesday, doctors have only published a medical report confirming that Berlusconi (86) He has been suffering from leukemia for some time and was hospitalized for the treatment of a “lung infection”.but they have no intention of sharing another newsletter update this Saturday.
Italy is therefore speculating about the state of health of the three-time prime minister, and the local press quotes sources close to him who claim that responds well to treatment and receives longer visits.
Yesterday, Friday, he called the director of the newspaper daily, Augusto Minzolini, to whom he told that “it is difficult, but I will get out of this. I have always managed to get out of difficult and delicate situations,” he added in a telephone conversation, according to the newspaper’s editorial.
For his part, the coordinator of the Forza Italia party and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, admitted that Berlusconi would like to return home but admitted that he must continue under medical supervision.
In the last hours, his friend and political partner Gianni Letta also visited him: “He is better than they think,” he told reporters standing guard in front of the hospital.
Berlusconi (86) was admitted last Wednesday and this Thursday a medical report was issued confirming that he has been suffering from “chronic myelomonocytic leukemia for a long time”, that he is being treated with light chemotherapy because it has worsened in recent months, and that he was hospitalized “for the treatment of a lung infection”.
In front of the hospital, a banner “Come on, Silvio, Monza is with you” was placed, signed by fans of the football club owned by him.
During his entrance, Berlusconi invited the leaders of his party and allies in the government, such as Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Vice President and Minister of Infrastructure Matteo Salvini.
He is also accompanied at the hospital by his family, and he received the chairman of his media empire Mediaset, Fedele Confalonieri, who said: “There are concerns, but we are optimistic.”
Berlusconi had already been hospitalized in San Raffaele last week for what were said to be medical examinations, but his condition was not considered serious. Over the years, Berlusconi has experienced repeated hospitalizations: one of the most recent, in January 2022, was due to a urinary tract infection.
