It has been rumored for a long time, now there is finally confirmation: In the upcoming Disney+ series “Ahsoka” is becoming Lars Michaelsen (“Sherlock”) plays the popular “Star Wars” villain Grand Admiral Thrawn. This was announced at the Star Wars Celebration fan convention in London. Mikkelsen joined the other “Ahsoka” cast members on stage at the end of the panel – this is also confirmed by our editor Annemarie Havran, who is present for FILMSTARTS at the Star Wars Celebration in London:
This fulfills a wish of many fans, as Lars Mikkelsen had already lent his voice to the character in the animated series “Star Wars: Rebels” and has since been requested by viewers to cast “Ahsoka” as the villain. The series will follow the events of “Star Wars Rebels” almost seamlessly. At the end, series hero Ezra Bridger (voiced by Taylor Gray) disappeared into hyperspace along with the Imperial villain Grand Admiral Thrawn and must now be tracked down by Ahsoka.
This is Grand Admiral Thrawn
Grand Admiral Thrawn was created by sci-fi and fantasy author Timothy Zahn as part of a series of “Star Wars” novels published in the 1990s. It retells the events of “Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi”. Here, Thrawn is a cunning and ruthless Imperial Grand Admiral who has taken control of what’s left of the Imperial fleet and is launching a counter-offensive against the New Republic to destroy them once and for all.
The witty, vicious strategist has been a favorite of “Star Wars” fans for years, thanks in part to the successful dubbing by Lars Mikkelsen. Another reason to look forward to the start of the series, which will be available in August 2023 Disney+ will be available. We’ve included the trailer for the series once more here:
