Lebanon has fired “several missiles” at northern Israel.

There was a missile alert in Israel on Thursday. At least 34 rockets were fired from Lebanon into Israeli territory from the neighboring country, the Israeli army said in the afternoon. The national missile defense system Iron Dome (Eiserner Dom) intercepted 25 missiles – five missiles hit Israel. Videos on social media show the damage the missiles did. Israel struck back.

At least two people were injured in the missile strikes, according to Israeli rescue services – a man from shrapnel and a woman on the way to the shelter. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (73) convened a security meeting after the attack. Lebanese Defense Minister Joav Galant announced a meeting with senior officials. Lebanese security circles said Israel’s artillery struck targets in the border area.

In response, Israel launched 15 155mm shells into Lebanese territory. The Israeli army has fired “several shells from their positions on the border” into southern Lebanon, the Lebanese news agency ANI reported Thursday.

Hezbollah in Lebanon pledged aid to Palestine

After clashes on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, pro-Iranian Hezbollah in Lebanon had previously pledged its full support to Palestinian groups in “measures against Israel”. Hezbollah “strongly condemns the attack” on the Al-Aqsa Mosque and expresses its “full solidarity with the Palestinian people and resistance groups,” the militia said on Thursday. She promises to “stand by her side in all measures” to protect the faithful.

More than 350 people were arrested on Wednesday night after “troublemakers” barricaded themselves at the Al-Aqsa Mosque on Jerusalem’s Temple Mount, according to Israeli police. Stones were thrown at officials and fireworks were set off.

conflict in the Gaza Strip

Following violent clashes between Israeli police and Palestinians at Islam’s third-holiest site, rockets were fired at Israel from the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, prompting Israel to respond with its own attacks.

Hezbollah controls large parts of southern Lebanon. It also maintains close ties with the radical Islamic Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, and with the militant Palestinian organization Islamic Jihad, which is also active there. Most recently, the pro-Iranian militia fired rockets into Israel in April last year. The Israeli army responded with artillery fire.

Israel and Lebanon are officially at war. There is always tension at the border between the two countries. Hezbollah, an ally of Iran, has often claimed responsibility for rocket attacks against Israel in the past.

UN mission: “The situation is very serious”

The UN peacekeeping mission Unifil called on both sides to de-escalate. “The situation is very serious,” the organization said. The Unifil blue helmets have been guarding the border area between Israel and Lebanon since 1978.
