They came in the middle of the night. Agents from the FBI and the US Department of Defense knocked on the door of room 1505 on the 15th floor of the Revere Hotel in Boston on Wednesday. A Delta Air Lines pilot slept inside. When he opened the door, officers rushed in, handcuffed the man and put him in the shower.
For the officers, it was just an exercise. They had to go through a scenario that they might encounter in action. But the approximately 30-year-old pilot experienced a true nightmare: the agents had mixed up the room – and he had no idea what was going on.
Officers handcuffed the pilot for more than 45 minutes before realizing their mistake, removing the handcuffs and apologizing to him.
According to the TV channel WBZ News, the emergency services have arrived to investigate the man. However, he refused treatment. The hotel’s security service was notified of the incident. The Boston Police Department was also notified.
The pilot, whose identity is not yet publicly known, told the broadcaster he would speak to his employer before commenting publicly on what happened.
The FBI says the agents were sent to the wrong room “because of incorrect information”. Therefore, a person was arrested who did not play the intended role. “Fortunately, no one was hurt,” the FBI said.
Delta Air Lines has issued a statement reiterating the company’s commitment to the safety and well-being of its employees. Reports of the incident will be followed up. (no)
