A 14-year-old has been arrested in France for planning an Islamic attack in a town in Alsace. A spokesman for the interior ministry in Paris said on Wednesday that police had seized an explosive from Islamist radicalized youth.

The access happened Tuesday morning in Rosenau. According to media reports, French security authorities only became aware of the youngster a few days ago. He had therefore made an explosive with ingredients he had bought himself.

“An Intelligent Boy”

As “Le Parisien” reported, the teenager wanted to carry out an attack on behalf of the terrorist militia Islamic State (IS). It is not known what the target of the possible attack would have been. Special forces came from Paris to gain access, reported the local newspaper “Les Dernières Nouvelles d’Alsace”, which also published a photo of the residential building in the center of the city. The teen’s aunt told the newspaper that he was “an intelligent boy” who had come to high school after skipping a grade. His parents are not religious at all, neither are his classmates.

French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin (40) thanked the security forces for their vigilance after the attack in Alsace. The terrorist threat in France remains high. Since 2017, 41 Islamist attacks have been thwarted, he said. (SDA)
