Ivan Rossomakhi, a convicted murderer and former Wagner mercenary, is said to have killed again in his home country.

Tens of thousands of Russian prisoners joined the Russian mercenary group Wagner in the war in Ukraine. No wonder: Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigozhin (61) promised them a lot of pay and pardon in exchange for their fight in the Donbass.

Prigozhin kept his word: in March, numerous former prisoners returned freely to their homeland. So does Ivan Rossomakhin (28), reports the American think tank “Institute for the Study of War” (ISW). However, he did not stay free for long. Because: Back in his homeland, Rossomakhin became a criminal again. He is suspected of murder and has been arrested again.

He threatened drunk residents

In 2020, Ivan Rossomakhin was sentenced to 14 years in prison for murder. After the outbreak of war in Ukraine, he joined the Wagner mercenaries – along with numerous other convicted criminals.

Based on information from various media, ISW reports that on March 21, 2023, Rossomakhin returned from the front to his native village in the Kirov region. There he allegedly drank several residents and threatened for days that he would kill them.

Did he kill his own mother?

A week later, he turned his threats into action. The lifeless body of an elderly person with numerous stab wounds was found and Rossomakhin was arrested by Russian authorities on suspicion of murder. If you believe information from the Belarusian Telegram channel, which is critical of the regime Next Livethe dead woman is actually Rossomakhin’s mother.

According to reports, Wagner boss Prigozhin distanced himself from convicts who had reoffended. He is said to have said that he regretted Rossomakhin’s downfall. However, since the Wagner group pardoned thousands of former prisoners, “only 20” crimes associated with them have been reported. In these cases, they would be taken back to the front, says Prigozhin. As the ISW reports, it is expected that after the return of the former detained mercenaries, crime in Russia will increase.
