“In reality I am a good person.” Josef Fritzl (87) writes this in his book. The qualified electrical engineer made headlines around the world in 2008 when his horrific exploits came to light.
The incest criminal’s book is said to be “The Abyss of Josef F.” are mentioned, as the Austrian “Kronen Zeitung” reports. The Austrian, sentenced to life imprisonment, sees himself as a “responsible family man”. As a reminder: Josef Fritzl kept his daughter in a cellar under inhumane conditions for years. With her he fathered seven children.
The Austrian would have more children. He had had “dozens of sexual affairs” during business trips, “sometimes not without consequences”. “I have a few children with different Indian women,” says Fritzl. “And with a woman from Ghana, a son that I am very proud of because he is now a respected lawyer.”
One searches in vain for remorse. The 87-year-old is bathed in self-pity as he looks back on his arrest in 2008. He was all alone with his thoughts at the time. “There was no one I could confide in.”
According to the “Kronen Zeitung”, Fritzl writes in his book about the rape of his own daughter: “Not everything happened as it was portrayed in the media. But even though I have been labeled a ‘monster’ by reporters, countless people have don’t be put off by it.” He had received hundreds of letters in which people “encouraged him”.
Fritzl also mentions daily life in prison. “I am extremely popular in the facility because I am always nice and polite to my fellow inmates and the guards,” he claims. He only had to refrain from walks in the garden, “because there are some prisoners just waiting to beat me up”.
One passage makes it especially clear that the Austrian does not seem to regret his actions. In it he writes that he “doesn’t want to put himself ‘on the same level’ as most of my prison colleagues”. Many of them had committed “terrible murders”. “And I don’t understand that.”
The incest criminal also mentions his plans for the future in the book. “Of course I want to spend the last years of my life in freedom.” He would move back to Amstetten, Austria, to the same village where he committed his crimes. There he would “perhaps set up a business” and “rent a cozy apartment”. (obf)
