Biathlete Eivind Sporaland missing – Secret Service takes over search

Where is Eivind Sporaland located? This question not only concerns the Norwegian biathletes, but also the police in Lillehammer and now even the secret service. Because the 22-year-old biathlon talent has been missing for several days.

On the morning of March 19, Sporaland left his home in Lillehammer and disappeared without a trace. The athlete, who won silver at the Junior World Championships in 2021, is also wanted by his colleagues. There is a search on Twitter with a description of his person: Slim and 1.80 meters tall. When he was last seen, he was wearing a blue down jacket, dark trousers, red sneakers and a hat.

The police are asking for tips and have already received some. However, operations manager Frode Øverås in Innlandet precinct recently told the “Dagbladet”: “We have different hypotheses about what could have happened, but we are in a really difficult situation right now.”

According to Øverås, the official search has already ended. He added: “The case was included in the Secret Service and investigative trail. We checked the geographic areas near where he parked his car – forest area, hiking areas, but to no avail.”

The police still assume that the young biathlete is still alive and cannot or will not be found. Per Solverg of Lillehammer police station told NRK radio: “We are looking at relevant areas where the person was last seen. We search both in the field and in the city. We are investigating garages and private areas where he may have taken refuge.”

After the search, the Norwegian youth coach and his team decided to go to the junior championships in Alta, in the far north of the country. Arne Horten, chairman of the Norwegian Biathlon Federation, told the broadcaster: “We had a discussion beforehand about whether we should organize the championships as planned. We agreed that the championships are a great opportunity to bring everyone together and it use it as a place where we can talk to each other.”
