Is this SCB masochistic?

SCB players Joshua Fahrni (left) and Tristan Scherwey are disappointed after their third defeat against Biel.

After two years of horror, SC Bern wanted to get back to the top this season with a transfer offensive. The top 6 with direct playoff qualification should be it. It came differently with another difficult season and a lot of turbulence. The Mutzen even had to fight twice towards the early end of the season.

After four consecutive defeats, SCB ran into problems at the end of qualifying. Even the minimal pre-playoff goal was suddenly in question. With a 3:1 against the SCL Tigers and a 4:1 against the ZSC Lions, they just managed to pull the head out of the noose.

Win or fly against Kloten

Events were repeated in the pre-playoffs against Kloten: after an undisputed performance in game 2 (1:4 bankruptcy), SCB had the knife on its neck again – win or fly! And look at this: the Berner passed the endurance test in the showdown again with 5-0.

So now again. SCB is 2:3 behind in the quarterfinal derby series against Biel. And is already playing towards the premature end of the season. Is this SCB masochistic and does he need such a starting position to achieve his best performance? Even after trailing 2-0 in the series, SCB was under enormous pressure and was able to react.

‘I would like to win 4-0’

“No, not that. If we could have chosen this series, we would have preferred to win it 4-0,” says striker Tristan Scherwey. But that’s how it is now. “We have the knife in our neck again and I am convinced that we will play a good home game again.”

Opponent Biel was in a difficult starting position until Friday because they had lost a 2-0 lead with two defeats. How did the Seelanders manage that? “Maybe the nice weather helped, we went to lunch together,” says defender Yannick Rathgeb. The SCB will not receive this energy source due to the weather forecast this weekend.
