Russia extends deal for 60 days

class=”sc-3778e872-0 gWjAEa”>

“The deal has been extended for 60 days,” ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at her weekly press conference in Moscow on Thursday. The agreement was recently extended for 120 days – valid until Sunday. After that, the new 60-day period starts.

The agreement on the Black Sea Grain Initiative was brokered in July 2022 by the United Nations and Turkey and includes the release of Ukrainian ports for grain exports.

After renewed negotiations with the UN, Russia had promised a 60-day extension, but there were also requirements. Moscow complains that Western sanctions hinder the export of Russian food and fertilizer and make the extension conditional on facilitating export transactions, such as bank payments, transportation logistics and insurance. In addition, Russia plans to reuse its ammonia pipeline through Ukraine, which is currently not in use.
