Recently, videos have been piling up on Twitter and Telegram channels that appear to show groups of hooded Russian soldiers shouting for help to Putin. They appeal to their president that they are unprepared or ill-equipped and unable to fulfill their task.
The videos say they are not agitators and will not refuse to fight for their country. But they are not cannon fodder either. The female relatives of the soldiers also sent a message to President Putin and Defense Minister Shoigu, requesting that their husbands withdraw from the front.
Videos circulating on social media invariably give the impression that many Russian soldiers have insufficient or no equipment at all. Last year, videos of rusted and aging guns circulated. A new video also recently showed a soldier armed with nothing but a stick in the middle of the battlefield. How representative such videos are cannot be judged. (lzo)
