Swiss Gianni Infantino was re-elected as president FIFAnd for the next four years, until 2027, after receiving almost unanimous support from the member federations during the organization’s Congress held in Kigali, Rwanda.
52-year-old presenter he had no rival in this re-election for the position he has held since he took it in 2016 to replace Joseph Blatter, suspended for corruption. The statute of the football body considers that the period from that year to 2019 does not suit it, and that the first official election was four years ago, so this is the first time that it renews its mandate, which will allow him to present himself again in 2027.
“Let me just say thank you to everyone. There are many who love me and few who hate me, but I love you all. Being the president of FIFA is a great honor and privilege, but also a great responsibility. I can still trust my commitment,” said the president, who had hardly any opposition beyond the German, Norwegian and Swedish alliances, after his re-election.
