They hope to approve the indictment against the former Peruvian prime minister

President of the Peruvian Congress José Williamsexpressed confidence that the Permanent Commission of the Parliament approves the final report charging former Prime Minister and Deputy Betsy Chávez with the alleged crimes of rebellion and conspiracy, as a result of his apparent participation in the failed coup of former President Pedro Castillo.

Williams confirmed that this Tuesday the Standing Committee will meet to “approve the final report of the Subcommittee on Constitutional Claims” and reiterated that he hopes “it will be approved.

“Tomorrow (Wednesday) we have to hold the Board of Directors and then it will be submitted to the plenary session which will vote for the appropriate impeachment”from next week, Williams added in press statements, following a meeting with President Dino Boluarte at the Government Palace.

legislator Betsy Chavez She was the president of the Council of Ministers when Castillo ordered the closure of Congress on December 7, the establishment of an extraordinary executive power to administer the decree and the reform of the judicial system.

After Castillo were immediately arrested, Chávez and former foreign trade ministers Roberto Sánchez and Interior Willy Huerta The national prosecutor declared them co-authors of the crime of sedition and conspiracy, and the parliament asked the judiciary to order a ban on them leaving the country.

On this topic, Williams told reporters that he Congress has corrected the information on this request to prevent Chávez and Sánchez from leaving the country, as requested by the competent supreme court on Monday.

Last Friday, Standing Committee of the Parliament approved asking the judiciary to order preventing the former head of the Council of Ministers and the former trade minister from leaving the country for their alleged intervention in the events.

The decision was based on “the possibility of avoiding justice”after a previous report recommended charging Chávez, Sánchez and Huerta as co-authors of Castillo’s failed coup.

In addition, the Commission proposed charging the former ministers with the alleged commission of the crimes of sedition and conspiracy, as co-authors and also recommends the suspension of Chávez and Sánchez, both deputies, from their parliamentary duties.

Shortly after this news was published, Sánchez announced that he had submitted his passport to Congress, with the aim of showing his own “full mood for cooperation with the investigations that are developing with the constitutional denunciation”.
