A passerby found a body stuck upside down in a manhole on a country road near the German city of Cologne on Sunday morning. An emergency doctor could only determine the death of the unknown, according to a police spokesman.
The circumstances of the fact are still unclear, it said. The body discovered on a country road in Niederkassel-Lülsdorf was wrapped in a blood-soaked blanket and covered with splits.
A wheelbarrow was discovered nearby, which may have been used to transport the fissure to the shaft. The police have now set up a murder squad.
According to the information, a youth discovered that his feet in sports shoes protruded from a green strip between a pedestrian and bicycle path and the street there.
He alerted the police. The body was eventually dug out of the manhole by firefighters. (SDA/ced)
