They call it insulting that Republicans are declaring war on the cartels

Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador assessed the proposal of American Republicans to declare war on the Mexican cartels, considering them terrorists, “irresponsible” and “an insult to the people of Mexico”.

“This Republican initiative, in addition to being irresponsible, represents an insult to the people of Mexico, a lack of respect for our sovereignty”he said at his morning press conference.

López Obrador assured that he would not allow a Government foreign countries, let alone its armed forces, intervene on national territory.

“Once we establish a position, we will not allow any foreign government to intervene, much less the armed forces of a foreign government to intervene on our territory,” convicted.

Furthermore, he threatened Republican Partythe promoter of this initiative that would authorize action by the US military against the cartels, by mobilizing Mexicans and Hispanics living in the United States to vote against them.

“If they don’t change their attitude and think that they will use Mexico for their propaganda and political purposes, we will call not to vote for that party because it is interventionist, inhumane, hypocritical and corrupt”warned.

Two laws were presented on Wednesday NOW who advocate considering Mexican cartels as terrorist groups and allowing the military to be used to fight them.

The controversy has grown following the controversy sparked by the kidnapping of four Americans last Friday at border city of Matamoros (Tamaulipas)two of whom were killed.

In the background is also the fight against the trade in fentanyl, a synthetic opioid produced in Mexico with chemicals from China causing hundreds of thousands of overdose deaths in the United States.

These bills would bar criminal members from entering the United States, authorize the freezing of their assets, and prohibit anyone from knowingly aiding and abetting them, among other mechanisms.

“We do not accept what this senator (Lindsey Graham) said, Mexico is respected, we are not a protectorate or a colony, we are an independent, sovereign country and we do not take orders from anyone”the Mexican president replied.

The White HouseStill, he eased tensions between the two countries on Wednesday by asserting that the U.S. now has all the legal powers to fight drug trafficking without having to designate Mexican cartels as terrorist groups.

“Declaring these cartels foreign terrorist organizations would not give us any additional jurisdiction that we don’t already have at this point.”Karine Jean-Pierre, spokeswoman for the president, said at her daily press conference Joe Biden.
