A left-wing MP in France has been suspended from parliament for two weeks for posing in a photo with his foot on a ball showing the head of the Labor minister. MP Thomas Portes had to leave parliament in Paris immediately after the sanctions were passed on Friday evening. For the next two weeks, he will not be allowed to enter the plenary hall or other premises of the Assemblée Nationale. The photo in a tweet from the MP could give the impression that he was about to play football with the head of Labor Minister Olivier Dussopt. The tweet sparked outrage from a number of politicians.
With the tweet, the MP called on the Minister of Labor to withdraw the pension reform he proposed to parliament on Monday. The reform debate, which has been going on since Monday, has been marked by commotion, bickering and insults. Parliament President Yaël Braun-Pivet complained on Friday evening that all this was not worthy of Parliament. (sda/dpa)
