According to US President Joe Biden, he has “not yet made a final decision” about a renewed presidential candidacy. Although he is leaning in that direction, the 80-year-old Democrat told the American television channel PBS NewsHour on Wednesday.

However, there is no final decision yet. “I think it’s my intention. But I haven’t made that final decision yet,” Biden said of his candidacy for a second term in the 2024 presidential election. He had previously indicated that he was very much toying with the idea.

Why the chances of Biden running again are still high:

The Democrat had only promoted his politics on Tuesday with a belligerent State of the Union speech — and anticipation of a possible renewed presidential candidacy. He referred to a number of successes since taking office in January 2021, including in the fight against the corona pandemic, in economic policy, in infrastructure and in climate protection.

However, many voters see his advanced age as a major problem. Biden is already the oldest president in US history and would turn 86 at the end of a possible second term. According to a poll, 58 percent of Democratic supporters and Democratic independent voters think the party should field another candidate before 2024. (sda/afp)
