After the end of the war in Ethiopia: First meeting between Abiy and TPLF CIA boss: Next 6 months are “key” in the war

According to media reports, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has personally met with members of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) for the first time to promote a peace deal. The meeting was about the implementation of previous agreements between the parties and aspects “that require more attention in the future”, the state television channel EBC reported on Friday. Further details were not given.

The Ethiopian government and the TPLF signed a ceasefire in November after two years of war, brokered by the African Union (AU). Since then, peace negotiations have progressed slowly. First, the government and the TPLF had drawn up a treaty to disarm the northern Tigray region.

According to the UN, several hundred thousand people have been killed in fighting since November 2020. The think tank International Crisis Group (ICG) described the conflict in the densely populated country on the Horn of Africa with its 120 million inhabitants as “one of the world’s deadliest”.
