Prince Harry can look forward to an entry in the Guinness Book of Records. As Penguin-Verlag reports, more than 3.2 million copies of his autobiography “Reserve” (original title: “Spare”) were sold worldwide in the first week. This makes the work the “fastest selling non-fiction book of all time”. According to the publisher, it will remain number one in the German, Austrian and Swiss bestseller lists for the next week.
The book is also a success in Britain, Prince Harry’s home country: according to “Forbes”, Penguin Random House UK stated that “Reserve” sold 750,000 copies there in its first week across all formats – hardcover, e-books and audiobooks. It is therefore “the best-selling memoir of all time in its first week of publication”.
The book, for which the 38-year-old also gave some TV interviews, was published on January 10. It had previously caused a stir for being sold too early in Spain.
In “Reserve”, Prince Harry writes about his view on affairs in the British royal family, his life and his role as deputy heir to the throne. “I was the shadow man, the support, the plan B. I was born in case something happened to Willy,” it says at one point.
He also deals with spicy topics such as his first time, drug use or a physical altercation with Prince William. The palace has so far remained silent on all allegations from Harry, who lives in California with his wife, Duchess Meghan, and their children Archie and Lilibet.
