Three journalists detained in Iran ‘unfortunate choice of words’ – this is how Musk’s lawyers try to explain 2018 tweets

According to media reports, journalists have again been arrested in Iran. Melika Hashemi, Saidi Shafii and Mehrnush Sarei were transferred to the notorious Evin Prison in the capital Tehran.

The newspaper ‘Etemad’ reports this on Sunday. There were no further details about the arrests. More than 90 media workers have been arrested in the country’s recent wave of protests, according to New York’s Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ). About half of those arrested have since been released on bail. Reporting capabilities in the country are extremely limited. Iran is one of the last places in a press freedom ranking by Reporters Without Borders (RSF).

The reason for the protests against the repressive course of the government and the Islamic regime was the death of the Iranian Kurd Jina Mahsa Amini in September. She died in police custody after being arrested for violating Islamic dress codes. Street protests have subsided in recent weeks. Many women now express their displeasure through civil disobedience, for example by ignoring the mandatory headscarf. (saw/sda/dpa)
