Girlfriends die in the rubble of Dnipro

They smile at the camera and joke. Two friends are clearly having fun on a car ride, as shown in a black and white photo.

But the women are no longer alive. Ukrainian women Olha Usova and Irina Salamatenko, whose photo was shared on Twitter by Ukrainian disinformation and security expert Maria Avdeyeva, are said to have been killed in the last major Russian missile strike. Namely in Dnipro, where an X22 missile destroyed a residential building.

According to Avdeeva, Olha Usova has a young son and Irina Salamatenko is a mother of two children. The two were “excellent doctors” who volunteered. “There is only one way to fight terrorists,” said security expert Avdeyeva. “And we all know what it is.”

More than 70 injured

So far, 30 dead have been pulled from the rubble. The region’s military governor, Valentyn Resnichenko, spoke of 35 dead on Monday. According to a spokeswoman for the regional governor, 30 people are injured in hospital. The chairman of the regional parliament, Mykola Lukaschuk, spoke of a total of 73 injured.

The attack on Dnipro was the most memorable of a wave of attacks on Saturday. The attacks again targeted energy infrastructure. The region around the capital Kiev and the city of Kharkov in the east were badly hit.

The Ukrainian General Staff said Russia launched three waves of attacks on Saturday, including 57 missiles. 26 were intercepted.

“We fight for everyone”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (44) announced in his last video address that more than 30 people are still missing. “We fight for everyone. The rescue work will continue as long as there is even the slightest chance of saving a life.” However, hopes are sinking into freezing temperatures every hour that more people can be rescued.

Ukraine braced for more electricity problems. Nationally, the amount of electricity per household, which has already been significantly reduced in many places, must be further reduced to avoid major bottlenecks, said the electricity grid operator of the state of Ukrenergo. (two)
