Computer error paralyzes American air traffic Foo Fighters announce first performances after drummer’s death

After a flaw in the US Federal Aviation Administration’s computer system, the NOTAM (Notice to Air Missions) system, air traffic in the US has been severely restricted.

According to Flight Aware, an aviation software and data services company, more than 1,150 flights coming in and out of the United States were delayed on Wednesday. More than 400 have been cancelled.

While the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has not enforced grounding of aircraft due to the failure, most airlines would have opted to ground their fleets due to the failure of the system.

“The FAA is working to restore its system,” the agency said. “We are currently performing final validation checks and reloading the system. Operations throughout the national airspace system are affected.”

The duration and the exact extent of the outage are not yet known.
