According to a media report, Brazil’s ex-president Jair Bolsonaro was taken to a hospital in Orlando, US, by thousands of supporters in his home country following the riots. According to the Brazilian newspaper “O Globo”, Bolsonaro is suffering from severe abdominal pain.
It is not the first time that right-wing politicians have come to the clinic, not even in politically critical situations. Two days before the end of his term on New Year’s Day, he flew with his family to the US state of Florida.
Confused stabbed him during the campaign
During an election campaign in September 2018, a mentally disturbed man stabbed Bolsonaro and inflicted severe abdominal injuries on him. The former soldier then continued the election campaign from the hospital. The following month he was elected president. Bolsonaro has been hospitalized ever since, even after taking office in early 2019, and has had to undergo multiple surgeries.
Radical Bolsonaro supporters stormed the government district in Brazil’s capital Brasília on Sunday. They briefly seized control of the country’s major government departments and made their way into Congress, the Supreme Court and the seat of government, Palácio do Planalto. There they rebelled, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. It took security forces hours to regain control of the situation. (SDA)
