6 Huge Structures To (Finally) Open In 2023 These Hardcore Republicans Are Voting No To McCarthy

The world has quite a few construction sites right now. But these gigantic structures must be completed in 2023 in any case.

Abrahamic Family House, Abu Dhabi

One of the largest mosques in the world is already in Abu Dhabi: the Sheikh Zayed Mosque. The megastructure opened in 2007 and has been attracting numerous tourists ever since.

Now the opening of a new mega project is imminent: the Abrahamic Family House. The entire building by top architect Sir David Adjayes combines a church, a mosque and a synagogue. It is an interfaith complex that aims to unify the values of the three monotheistic religions of Judaism, Christianity and Islam. A kind of modern Jerusalem.

In addition to the mosque, church and synagogue, an education center is being built on Saadiyat Island, the cultural heart of Abu Dhabi, where the communities can spend time together.

The name of the project, Abrahamic Family House, is no coincidence. Abraham is called the progenitor of Judaism, Christianity and Islam. They are therefore also called the three Abrahamic world religions.

Construction began in 2019 after Pope Francis signed a document stating the aim of “promoting brotherhood and mutual respect among all nationalities and religions”.

The opening is planned for 2023.

National Library of Israel, Jerusalem

In 2023, a new building will also be inaugurated in the holy city of Jerusalem. Not a place of worship. But still a house of history and cultural treasures: the National Library of Israel.

The library is being built in West Jerusalem and will become a new landmark in the city. It lies at the foot of the Knesset, the Israeli parliament, and the Israel Museum, the science museum.

The 45,000 square meter building with six above ground and four underground floors was designed by Swiss star architects Herzog & de Meuron. It is planned to house more than four million books, 2.5 million photographs, manuscripts and artifacts that will be accessible to the general public.

An auditorium and open-air amphitheater are planned, which will host cultural events such as concerts, book fairs and film festivals.

The opening of the library is planned for the spring of 2023.

Merdeka 118, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

“Merdeka” (Malay for independence) roared Tunku Abdul Rahmans, Malaysia’s first prime minister, when he declared the country’s independence in 1957.

In the future, “Merdeka” will probably no longer be associated with Independence Day, but with one of the tallest skyscrapers in the world – the Merdeka Tower.

When completed, the 678-meter-tall building will be the second-tallest building in the world – after Dubai’s 828-meter-tall Burj Khalifa.

Construction of the skyscraper started in 2014. The building is expected to be completed in the second half of 2023. It consists of 100 floors of rentable space, including offices, hotel rooms and an observation deck.

Great Egyptian Museum, Giza, Egypt

The Great Egyptian Museum should have opened in 2013. Really.

The foundation stone for the building was laid in 2002 under then-Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. But after the announcement, the building suffered repeated setbacks. The Arab spring, financial problems and the corona pandemic mean that the opening has been delayed for years.

Located about two kilometers from the Necropolis of Giza, the museum covers an area of 50 hectares. Said to be the largest archaeological museum in the world, it houses more than 150,000 artifacts from ancient Egypt, including the complete Tutankhamen collection.

The total cost of the project is estimated to be more than $1 billion.

An official opening date has not yet been announced. The museum has already announced a first event for January 2023.

Nordø, Copenhagen, Denmark

This year, Copenhagen was named the World Capital of Architecture by UNESCO. The most recent addition to the Danish city is the Nordø district.

A circular building is being built at the top of Copenhagen’s Nordhavn, the glass facade of which is intended to help reduce energy consumption. New settlements are being built everywhere. The project includes more than 100 new apartments and extensive commercial space and is connected by two bridges.

The end of construction work is scheduled for 2023. The building, which protrudes from the ground like a polished diamond, is already one of the landmarks of the port of Copenhagen.

Red Sea International Airport, Saudi Arabia

An international airport is currently being built on the coast of the Red Sea in the Tabuk province of northwestern Saudi Arabia. The construction is part of the Red Sea Project, which was announced in 2017 by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman and aims to promote (luxury) tourism.

The terminal is being designed to give travelers the feeling of being in a private aircraft terminal. The airport offers small spaces in which relatively few people cross each other at the same time. The airport is operated with 100 percent renewable energy (solar and wind energy).

The project is part of the Saudi Vision 2030 program, which aims to reduce Saudi Arabia’s dependence on oil and diversify its economy.

The Red Sea Project comprises 50 hotels spread over 22 islands on the Red Sea. Passenger operations should start in 2023 along with the first hotels. The entire project is scheduled for completion in 2030. From the airport, tourists are to be taken to the islands by amphibious seaplanes.
