Ten dead in fire at Cambodian casino hotel

Several people have been killed in a fire at a Cambodian casino hotel on the border with Thailand. A preliminary police report, available at the AFP news agency, said “approximately” ten dead and 30 injured. The fire at the Grand Diamond City Hotel and Casino in Poipet broke out Thursday night.

Video footage circulating online showed the hotel on fire and several people apparently jumping from the burning building. According to media reports, there were also foreigners in the casino at the time of the fire.

Several injured people have been taken to hospitals in Thailand’s Sa Kaeo province, according to the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs. A volunteer from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation rescue organization in Thailand said the fire started on the first floor of the building and spread quickly. (SDA/kes)
